I am a morning person first and foremost. I wake up with a mind-set of getting out of bed, getting dressed, and getting ready for work. I am also a morning person for no good reason. I am awake for at least 8 hours and I have never slept well.
I am in awe of how sleep patterns and circadian rhythms are so important to how we feel and act at rest, but I have always struggled with the idea that this is really important. I have even felt guilty for falling asleep and waking up right away.
Like me, many people wake up early. Whether it is to work, school, or sleep, it is easy to fall asleep and have that feeling of being in a fog during the day. You become completely still and disconnected from your surroundings, and the only thing you can hear is the snooze alarm. Often, our sleep patterns are so messed up that we don’t even know it.
The most common waking time is about 40-45 minutes in most cases. This is because a person’s mind is so fragmented that they don’t have enough time to process it. The only time they do is in their bedrooms. I know a lot of people who have been through it, but I can’t remember if I recall one time when they woke up and it was like, “Oh, shit, I hear you.
I can say that I have a weird habit of waking to the same alarm that I have the last few days. I am a big fan of waking up at the same time regardless of whether or not the alarm is right. It makes me feel like I am on the same wavelength. Another thing I find really annoying is waking up to another alarm in the middle of the night. I’ve been known to be up at 2 a.m. or 3:30 a.m.
For the last few years I have been waking up around the same time as my alarm on a daily basis. My alarm clock, however, has always been set to 9:45. I do not have that problem now.
My alarm clock has been set to 1030, but I am not sure if that is just me. I actually think my alarm doesn’t usually wake me up. It is a little annoying and sometimes I find myself asleep in the middle of the night, waking up when it is time to go to school. (I am not a morning person though.
I have had issues with my alarm waking me up too early, but I have always found myself still getting up eventually. Why? It’s not like you have a choice. There are literally a million things you can do in the early morning hours, but I think it’s just a part of our circadian phase. We wake up and go to school pretty early these days. It is a part of our day that we just have to accept.
I have had a couple of mornings where I have wanted to stay in bed until late afternoon, and I have no idea why this is happening. It just is. But I do know that I am in the habit of getting up early. It is actually the easiest way for me to get going. But that is not to say that I cannot wake up when I am in the middle of the night.
I think there are two types of sleep. A short nap where I get up, go to my desk, get a cup of coffee, and work. Or an extended nap where I wake up, do my work, go home, and then go to bed. For me, I think I prefer the former. But I think it is a matter of personal preference.
